2015-07-12 Matsushima

A few of us headed up a hill (Shintoyama) behind our hotel (Shintomitei) for our morning exploration before breakfast. We could immediately tell that today's weather would be hotter than the previous days.

Breakfast was crowded because it was a Sunday and there were many hotel guests. We carefully packed our things and asked the hotel to store our bags while we stepped out to enjoy the many sights of the area. We walked to the harbor and toured the bay in a boat. Matsushima Bay has many small offshore islands and is very picturesque. Unfortunately, I wasn't sitting near a window and didn't take many pictures.
We walked to Godaido, a shrine located on another offshore island that was packed with tourists.

We had lunch at a quaint restaurant just off of the harbor then walked across a long bridge to Fukuura Island, a nature preserve.

Our last stop was the famous Buddhist temple, Zuigan-ji.
